We need to be more consistent as a team – Kusal Perera

The wicket-keeper batsman made these observations shortly after the third and final One Day International (ODI) against England was washed out at Bristol on Sunday.

“There were a lot of positives that we could take back from this tough tour but we are not consistent enough in batting and bowling,” he said after conceding the ODI series to England 0-2.

The 30-year-old, who was leading the country in his second series after being appointed Captain early this year, believed that the team performed well in patches but that was not good enough to challenge the reigning world champions.

“It’s been a tough tour for us. We performed well in patches but it wasn’t enough. We need to concentrate more on our batting,” he stressed after Sri Lanka were bowled out for 166 well inside the 50 overs.

Meanwhile, England Skipper Eoin Morgan was delighted with the series victory even though bad weather may have deprived them of another clean sweep.

“Everybody’s delighted with the series win. The way we started today – quite dominant, ruthless and disciplined. It’s been a bit of a trend in both the T20Is and the ODIs,”

“The guys haven’t taken anything for granted, we’re willing to show character and fight. As a team we always want to get better and Dave [Willey] has epitomised that,” Morgan commented.

The Player-of-the-Series David Willey said that he was pleased with the performance and thanked his teammates for providing the support throughout the series.

“All the bowlers bowled really well. I am pretty realistic and I am probably here because of a few injuries,” he said.
