Showers or thundershowers are expected in most parts of Sri Lanka after 1 p.m., with fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 millimeters likely in some areas, according to the Department of Meteorology.
The Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and North Western provinces, along with the Galle, Matara, Anuradhapura and Mannar districts, are likely to experience heavy rainfall, the Department said.
The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Showers or thundershowers are expected at several locations in the sea areas surrounding the island.
Winds are expected to be southeasterly or variable, with speeds ranging from 20 to 30 kmph. Sea conditions are likely to remain slight under normal conditions.
However, temporarily strong gusts of 60 to 70 kmph and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers. (Newswire)
