When I grow up I want to play for Sri Lanka, says Peterite Shenal

Shenal Boteju played school Cricket as a left handed opening batsman cum wicket keeper for his alma mater St. Peters College, Bambalapitiya and came up with two fighting knocks of 62 and 26 in the Big Match against St Josephs last week to rescue his team Speaking to Daily News Shenal said “Since I was small I was interested in sports and I wanted to play cricket.

“Cricket was not a choice, it came naturally to me from street cricket to watching my brother play for school and continue where he left off and achieve what he couldn’t, and to make him and my parents proud”. “My Father, Mother, Brother and Coaches have supported me to achieve much in cricket.”

“My top priority is to become a top professional in sports as well as academics and if the opportunity comes to represent the Sri Lanka national Cricket team one day and make my family proud”.

“My favourite holiday destination is Nuwara-Eliya”. “The maiden big match fifty at the just concluded 87th Battle of the Saints, was my most unforgettable incident thus far.Hence to date I really cherish that moment.”

“In my leisure time I like to travel, listen to music and play video games “I wouldn’t say it’s hard to be a cricketer because I enjoy playing the game. Like everything in life there will be ups and downs and people try to bring you down but the key to success is hard work give your maximum commitment and never get bogged down by the opinions of people. In simple just play the game you love and enjoy every bit of it.”

“The pandemic had thought me that life is very unpredictable just enjoy the time you have with your loved ones and enjoy what you do because you never know when all of it can be taken away from you.”
