The World Health Organization (WHO) has appreciated the measures taken by the Health Ministry to prevent and control the spreading of vector-borne diseases.
A joint external evaluation on vector-bone diseases in Sri Lanka conducted by the WHO has revealed that the measures taken by the health authorities to control Dengue, Malaria, Leishmaniasis and Lymphatic filariasis are at a satisfactory level.
A delegation led by WHO Respresentative Alaka Singh yesterday met Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala at the Health Ministry and they informed the Health Secretary about the findings of the evaluation.
During the discussion, Health Secretary said that the Health Ministry has implemented many new programmes to strengthen the primary health service in this country and provide quality health services to the people. It was pointed out that measures have also been taken to strengthen Dengue, Malaria, Filaria and Leishmania disease control, suppression and treatment services. He further said that these type of evaluations are very helpful to strengthen those measures.
