Wife arrested for Rs. 5 mn ransom demand from husband
The Police yesterday arrested a woman, who attempted to obtain Rs.5 million from her husband by pretending that she was abducted by an armed group.
The woman (51) had told her family that she was abducted while returning home from her daughter’s house.
However, she had remained at her brother’s house and had given calls to home pleading to rescue her from a gang. She had asked to deposit money in her bank account, stating that she has the passbook with her.
The woman’s family had lodged a police complaint on the incident.The woman was arrested by Anamaduwa Police after a lengthy investigation. The husband of the woman is a retired Army officer. They have three children.
It was revealed during investigations that the woman had borrowed Rs.750,000 to pay for a job agent to send her youngest son abroad, and that her abduction drama had been to find money to resettle the above debt.
