Walapane Police have arrested a wife who strangled her husband, while he was sleeping reportedly after the husband had not allowed her to go to an alms giving at a relative’s house.
The suspect a mother of two children was ordered to be remanded till April 27 after being produced in the Walapane Court. The 38-year-old suspect Sunethra Damayanthi is a resident of Palugedara, Rambuke. Her husband 44 year old K.H.M. Dharmadasa was found dead mysteriously in his bed on March 31. The wife had told the police that she and her husband slept in the same bed that night with their 7-year-old and 12-year-old children.
She had said that when she woke up the next morning, made tea and called her husband, he did not wake up, so she called the neighbours and took him to the hospital. He had been pronounced dead on admittance.
Later forensic experts at the Nuwara Eliya General Hospital after a post-mortem had reported that this was a case of strangulation.
