Windies Cricket Academy continues to produce top cricketers

Windies Cricket Academy, Matale continues to provide several cricketers to Kandy’s leading cricket playing schools. The man behind the success of Windies Cricket Academy is none other than its Head Ravi Punchihewa who was a former St. Thomas Matale Skipper who later played for Commercial Bank in the Mercantile A division presently serving as a match referee at Sri Lanka Cricket. He is a very keen Cricket promoter at Matale and had an idea to promote cricket in his area Matale first and now he is providing talented cricketers to Kandy’s leading schools. His ambition is very clear as Matale has very talented youngsters but lack of facilities especially good guidance from the talented coaches. This is the main reason he formed his own Academy called Windies CA. He has a busy schedule but he never misses the opportunity to talented youngsters to develop cricket.

At the meantime he is also an active member of the Matale St Thomas Old Boys Cricket Association. He has so many obstacles but he is determined to promote this sport.

Windies CA Head Ravi Punchihewa giving instructions to Isuru Gunasekara during the coaching session

The man of the match speed star from St. Sysvesters College Kandy , Isuru Gunasekara is a member of the Windies CA. He started cricket at the age of seven under guidance of Windies CA. The day by day he has developed his correct basics under guidance and the supervision of head of Windies CA Ravi Punchihewa and proved his potential in his first big match appearance this year.

Malith Lakshan is another product for St. Sylvesters College as an opener. He has scored two hundreds and several fifties during last two years. Shenan Randeniya and Arjuna Udugoda, are another two good all rounders for St. Sylvesters College .Kavindu Shehan is another top product of Windies CA to St. Anthonys Katugastota. He is an opening batsman and a fine wicket keeper.

In addition Januka Nethruwan Kumara a brilliant wicket keeper batsman for St. Anthony’s College , who had a superb knock of 166 against St. Mary’s Kegalle in the under 15 tournament last Year and he also product of Windies CA.

It’s a very noticeable point that with the talent of these young cricketers, all of them are in the Central Province Cricket Squads at present and I am very proud to give them good support at their beginning said Windies CA Head Ravi Punchihewa.
