Winning Netball Queen award is a collective effort, says Hiruni

Winning the highest award of the ‘Netball Queen’ at the Junior Netball National chsmpionship gives big boost said Holy Family Convent Kurunegala Goal Attack player Hiruni Heshani.

“This is the second time I won this Netball Queen title and it was a tremendous achievement and credit should go to my coaches Amalka Gunatilleka and fitness and conditioning trainer Ananda Wannithilleka both of them backed our team for the last few years”.

National Junior chsmpionship was organised by the Netball Federation of Sri Lanka (NSFL) the governing body for Netball in Sri Lanka. “We had to play outdoor matches during this type of tournaments but due to bad weather NFSL got a brave decision to play in indoor stadium at the Gallella Public grounds, Polonnaruwa. It was real opportunity for all junior players from across the country where they competed in an indoor stadium. We defeated our opponents Musaeus College 45-37 at the final after a close fight”.

“As a GA player I had opportunity to perform attacking, defensive and shooting skills which resulted the Netball Queen award.As an all-round skills I am very happy to contribute my skills to HFC victory. We got opportunity to share our ideas with Asia Cup winning Netball team captain Gayanjali Amarawansa and Deputy skipper Dulangi Wannithilleka who are our old girls and these two senior National players came to Polonnaruwa to see our matches and that gave a big morale boost to us. My team captain Tania Gunasekera won the Best Defensive Player award and Best Shooter award was won by Bashi Udagedera and all my team members worked hard to get this success, said Hiruni after received Netball Queen award from the Dialog Axiata General Manager Marketing Ashani Senaratne.

Meanwhile Goal Shooter of the tournament Bashi Udagedera said I was very happy to share my trophy with all my team members.I can’t win this trophy with out their support. We have to play next Milo All Island Schools Netball tournament at Wennappuea from November 11 to 13 at Albert F Piers Stadium and we wanted to repeat our performance, said Bashi Udagedera.
