Woman arrested at BIA with 916g of gold smuggled from Dubai

A 38-year-old woman has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for allegedly attempting to illegally bring 916 grams of gold into Sri Lanka from Dubai.

The arrest was made on Monday (28) at the airport’s arrival terminal by officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau Airport Unit, following a tip-off.

Police said officers recovered 12 parcels containing a total of 916 grams of gold from the suspect.

The woman is a resident of the Angoda area.

She was subsequently handed over to the relevant Customs authorities at the Katunayake Airport for further investigations. (Newswire)
