Woman arrested for Rs. 2 Mn fraud on two PHIs
Moratuwa Police arrested a 24-year-old woman working in an insurance company for cheating two Moratuwa Municipal Council Public Health Inspectors for Rs. 2 Mn.
This young woman, who works in the office of an insurance company in Mount Lavinia is a resident of Borella. The woman has appeared as a Senior Superintendent working in the Criminal Investigation Department. It has also been revealed in the investigation that she has been friendly with the two PHIs for about a year. She has obtained over Rs.1.5 million from one PHI and over Rs.500,000 from another.
It has also been revealed in the investigation that she even prepared fake letters with the letterhead of the Police headquarters including a fake Police ID to show that she is an officer of the Criminal Investigations Department. The investigation has revealed that this young woman had informed the PHIs that her father was a former Police officer and that he was ill.
She had taken money from the two PHIs from time to time, saying that it was for medical expenses for her father.
Police had started an investigation following a complaint by one of the PHIs.
