Woman arrested with Rs. 6.8 Mn worth heroin, cash

The Colombo Crimes Division said that a woman, alleged to be the main agent of a drug trade being operated by a large-scale drug dealer who is an inmate at the Mahara prison has been taken into custody at Grandpass.

The woman was taken into custody with 208 grams of heroin, worth about Rs.6.5 million and Rs.300,000 in cash suspected to have been earned through drug dealing. The suspect revealed during questioning that she had got to know the drug dealer at the Mahara jail, through her husband, who is in the Welikada prison on drug charges.

The woman said that she engaged in trafficking heroin based on instructions given to her over a mobile phone by the individual at the Mahara jail to her husband.

It has been further revealed that the 44-year-old suspect from Wellampitiya, Meethotamulla distributes drugs in bulk in Kolonnawa, Wellampitiya, Salamulla, Grandpass, Kotahena and other areas
