Woman suspect’s property worth millions handed over to DS

A property worth millions of rupees located in Kundasale, Mahawatta, in Kandy, belonging to a woman arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau under the charge of drug trafficking, was taken into the custody of the Kundasale Divisional Secretary (DS) yesterday (18).

According to an order given by the Kandy High Court, the Kundasale Divisional Secretary has been named as the custodian of the said property. After considering a request made by the Illegal Assets Investigation Division to issue an order to seize the relevant property under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, the High Court has issued the order.

According to the Illegal Assets Investigation Division, the concerned woman failed to provide clear information regarding how these assets were earned.

Accordingly, the owners will not be able to transfer, sell or use this land and house for any other activity without the permission of the Divisional Secretary of Kundasale.

The suspect woman, who is currently in prison, was brought to the relevant place by the prison officials. After the suspect’s husband handed her the house keys, she handed them over to the Divisional Secretary.
