Police are investigating an incident where a young married woman who was staying at her parents’ house in the Manuwangama area in Chilaw due to a family dispute was forcibly abducted by a group of youth including her estranged husband in a van.
The Police said that the 18-year-old married woman had left her husband recently and had come to her parents house saying that she had been unable to tolerate the harassment by her husband.
The abduction took place on the morning of April 19th, and investigations have revealed that only the mother of this married woman was at home at the time of the abduction and she was also attacked by this group. It is said that the abducted woman had an affair with a young man whom she met and subsequently married while attending tuition classes while she was studying at Chilaw.
She had eloped with him and lived in the Dambulla area for a short time and had returned home recently when she had been unable to tolerate the harassment by her husband.
