Woman’s murder suspects detained for questioning

Mahara Court Magistrate Janitha Perera gave permission to the Sapugaskanda Police to detain and question the main suspect and his accomplice, who handed themselves over to the Police in connection with the murder of a 52-year-old mother of three, for 48 hours yesterday (3).

According to a request made by the police to the court, the magistrate gave the following permission. The main suspect, who is a 53 year-old businessman and the other suspect, who is a 48-year-old broker, handed themselves over to the Police through lawyers.

Officers of the Government Analyst’s Department inspected the house and car in Siyambalape South where the woman is said to have been killed on Monday (2).

Police said that since the suspects have stated that the woman’s head and limbs were thrown into the canal near the Galahitiyawa Bridge, they have sought the assistance of the Police Marine Division to search for those parts.

The suspects stated that on September 27 they killed her in the house belonging to the main suspect and separated her head and limbs from her body and took them to the bridge on Galahitiyawa road in the morning next day (28) in the car belonging to the main suspect and dumped them in the canal.
