Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus Chairperson Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle told the Daily News that in addition to the preliminary investigation conducted by Parliament regarding the alleged sexual abuse of some of the officers of the Housekeeping Department, the Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus will also conduct another investigation.
Fernandopulle mentioned that this series of events is not approved at all and strict measures should be taken against all those involved in such events. The chairperson also mentioned that women MPs will meet next week to discuss this matter. Fernandopulle further said that she will discuss with the female employees of Parliament who have been harassed. She said that any woman should have a free working environment in her workplace and all those who are involved in such acts should be strictly dealt with. Dr.Fernandopulle further said that she would request the Speaker to intervene strongly regarding these incidents that have taken place in Parliament and called to mete severe punishment to those involved in these incidents.
