Workshop on Community Engagement and Involvement in Research

Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, Peradeniya University and Institute for Research and Development jointly organised a workshop on Community Engagement and Involvement in Research – Peradeniya, yesterday (1).

The Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture (PGIA), University of Peradeniya in collaboration with the Institute for Research and Development (IRD) will conduct the pre-congress workshop titled ‘Enhancing the Quality of Agriculture Research with Community Engagement and Involvement (CEI)’ on November 11 (Saturday). The workshop will be held at the main auditorium of Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, Peradeniya University from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The workshop is open for stakeholders who are interested in incorporating CEI in the research and implementation process. It will be targeted towards both new and returning participants, and will be conducted from an agriculture and social care perspective. CEI enables researchers to conduct studies that are relevant to, and in line with the needs of the community and communities influenced by the research problem, thereby resulting in research of higher quality, improved likelihood of successful recruitment, and successful implementation of findings.

An eminent panel of resource persons will conduct the workshop including Dr. Jim Elliott, Advocate for Patients in Health Research, Health Research Authority, University of Southampton, UK, Prof. Athula Sumathipala, Director, IRD and Chairman, National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS), Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Keele University, UK, Emeritus Professor of Global Mental Health, Kings College London, Dr. Godwin Kodituwakku, Chairman, IRD, Prof. Duminda Guruge, Department of Health Promotion, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka and Dr. Prabhath Ranasinghe Consultant Community Physician, Provincial Department of Health Services, Central Province, Sri Lanka.
