Sri Lankan javelin star Rumesh Tharanga has donated his javelins, which were recently damaged during air travel, to the Foundation of Goodness (FOG) to be preserved and displayed as sporting memorabilia at its Sports Gallery in Seenigama.

Tharanga, who has reached the world No. 1 ranking in men’s javelin and won gold at the 2026 Asian Games, made the donation during a visit to the foundation’s flagship venue, where he also accepted an appointment as a Goodness Ambassador.

The Foundation of Goodness, founded and led by Kushil Gunasekera, works to empower disadvantaged communities through education, sports development and other initiatives.

The damaged javelins will become part of the gallery’s collection of sporting memorabilia, preserving a piece of Tharanga’s sporting journey while serving as an inspiration to aspiring athletes.

Tharanga won gold in the men’s javelin throw at the 2026 Asian Games with a throw of 88.33 metres and has also enjoyed success at Commonwealth-level competition.

In his new role as Goodness Ambassador, Tharanga will support efforts to identify, nurture and mentor talented young athletes from rural areas, encouraging them to pursue their sporting ambitions.

The initiative aims to help young athletes follow in his footsteps and develop the skills and confidence needed to represent Sri Lanka at international competitions. (Newswire)
