WP Tourist Board to set up Foreign Language Teaching and Training Centre
The Western Province (WP) Tourist Board has decided to start a foreign language teaching and training centre that will help Sri Lankan youth, leaving on foreign jobs for high salaries with incentives.
WP Tourist Board Chairman Sugath Hewapathirana said that it has been planned to start global languages such as English, Japanese, Korean, French and German teaching and training courses soon.
The chairman said this while attending a special press conference held on Wednesday (16) at the Western Provincial Council premises in Battaramulla, Colombo.
The chairman further mentioned, these language courses to be introduced, concerns the burning need of youth of the country, who seek foreign employment.
“The primary purpose of this is to inaugurate one more programme in the line-up of programmes to promote the tourism sector by us as the Western Province Tourism Board. Likewise training programmes for tour guides and tour drivers will also be conducted. Language training for foreign jobs and other professional training programmes are being implemented. For that, arrangements have been made for teaching and training global languages such as English, Japanese, Korean, French and German,” Hewapathirana said.
Formal training will be given here by expert and government-approved teaching staff, and certificates of recognition in the country and abroad are also offered.
Japanese language training is scheduled to start from September as the first phase of language training. Training for the JLPT N4 and JLPT N5 (Japanese Language) examinations will be conducted. The applicants should apply for registration for those examinations which will be held in December 2023.

The last date for submission of applications is August 31.
