Yacht Marina on 44 acre land could anchor 200 yachts
Two of the newly completed projects of the Colombo Port City would be opened in the next two months allowing public access to them as well. With the visit of the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the Colombo Port City opened the marina promenade a leisure walk area opened to the public sans any pre bookings or check ins.
“This is a 500 metre walking path with the entrance from opposite the Presidential Secretariat and it is an open area for anyone to enter,” said Head of Public Relations, Port City Colombo, (CHEC) Kassapa Senerath.
Last year the mini golf course was opened making it one of the first leisure parks in the CPC. This was followed by the opening of Sri Lanka’s first sand dune track.
The Colombo Dunes Race Course, consists of three 2 km racetracks, is spread over an area of about five acres in the port city. The sand dunes ATV adventure centre is managed by Ranul Thantilage, Director of Colombo Dunes by Crate Adventure and they pay a rental fee. This area would soon have many dining and entertainment options added.
One of the biggest investments that opened at the CHEC on April 21, the region’s most modern international Yacht Marina heralds a new era in the South Asian leisure industry. The first project to be completed under the Port City Colombo landscape, it will attract over USD 500 million in the next three years.
The Yacht Marina when fully operational will be on a 44 acre land and it will have the facility to anchor 200 yachts making it one of the largest such venues in the region. The area will have a mini yacht repairing facility, duty free terminal, customs and facilities for several other maritime related businesses.
Already Sail Lanka is launching daily cruises which are very popular. “The Colombo Port City will soon call for international tenders for the projects and local companies too will get the opportunity to invest,” said Senarath.
Meanwhile, a Sri Lanka Expo Pavilion member in Dubai said that two UAE based investors were keen to set up two mixed development projects in the 74 land slots at the Colombo Port City. This is for two apartments and shopping malls,” he said.
