Yashitha, Anjalika set to retain titles at Tennis Nationals

Defending champions Yashitha de Silva and Anjalika Kurera will look to retain the Men’s and Women’s Singles title respectively when the 107th Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) National Championships gets underway at the SLTA Clay Courts in Green Path today.

Both players are fresh after a successful campaign with the national team having played a major role in the Davis Cup Tournament in Colombo and in the Billie Jean Cup Tournament in Tajikistan.

Over 1,000 competitors from island-wide will compete in the Junior, Open and Veteran categories with a prize money of Rs. 700,000 on offer for the winners of the Open events.

The events that will be conducted are the Boys’ and Girls’ Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, Under-18, Men’s and Women’s Singles and Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Veterans Singles and Doubles Over-35, Over-45, Over-55 and Over-65.

The main sponsor of the tournament is First Capital, and the event sponsors are Pepsi, Red Bull and Daraz.
