Yasith Kumara, from all-rounder to cricket coach

When he was in Grade three in 2003 he commenced participate for the Inter House Athletic Sports Meet and when he was under 8 he came second in 50 meters and third in 100 meters. Then from there he participated for the Inter House Athletic Meets up to Grade Five and won places and he had a short stint with Mihindu Vidyalaya Rathnapura. From his tender years his forte is cricket and noticing this his parents Nandasiri Kumara and Greeta Daizy Hemapala admitted their son to Dharmaraja

Vidyalaya Piliyandala and when he was in Grade Seven he attended for under 13 practices under Mr. Anil and he was a reserve player in his first year.

His first year in the under fifteen he passed the 400 mark with two fifties and captained the team. He is a right hand bat and a right arm off spinner and a good fielder at any position. In his second year captaining the team once again he passed the 400 mark with two centuries and he was selected for the Coca Cola squad. As an under 17 player he scored 628 runs with three centuries and two fifties and he was selected for the District Pool which consisted of 25 players.

His first year in the under 19 he collected 350 runs with two fifties and played in the first ever Big Match against Herman Gminner School Kesbewa he was the first Big Match Captain. In the following year he scored 437 runs with two half centuries.

After his school career he played for the Vision Sports Club Piliyandala in the Daily News Trophy and played Mercantile “D” Division for Ceylinco.

Then he commenced cricket coaching and he initially coached at Brendon Kuruppu Academy, the Cricket Academy of Holy Cross and Palannoruwa Maha Vidyalaya Gonapola and the team came for the last 16 and presently he is the head coach of his Alma Mater Dharmaraja Vidyalaya in the under 13, 15, 17 and 19 teams and also he is a level one coach.
