Young athletes to show their prowess

Colombo District Annual Athletic championship conducted by the Colombo District Athletic Association (CDAA) will be held this weekend (Nov 5-6) at the Torrington grounds , Colombo 07.

This is going to be a keen tussle between the young athletes in the age group of under 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 and open events in this two day event which is being held for the 19th time said President of the CDAA Ranga Wimalawansa the former Olympian coach and the sports administrator .

We are very keen to conduct this meet while this time Sugath Cycles Chairman Suresh Fernando has come forward to hand over two valuable mountain bikes for the best male and female athlete of this meet . We must appreciate Sugath Cycles chairman Suresh Fernando for donating two mountain bikes for the best athletes which is a real boost for the athletes.

The events of 80m, 100, high jump and long jump will be conducted for the under 12 athletes while Putt shot, Discus throw, Javelin throw, , 100m relays, Triple jump , 1500m also added for the under 14, 16, 18 groups and 5000m event will be included for the open event with other track and field events. The opening ceremony of the meet will be held today at which Sports Director General Amal Edirisooriya will be the chief guest. The presentation ceremony on the final day tomorrow (Sunday) Suresh Fernando the Chairman of the Sugath Cycles, Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA)President Major General Palitha Fernando, Sri Lanka Olympians Association President Sriyani Kulawansa, Vice President of SLA Dhamayanthi Dharsha and the senior officials of the CDAA and SLA will grace the occasion.
