Youth (24) dies mysteriously after liquor

Bandaragama Police said that a youth died mysteriously after a ‘party’ held at a shelter in Bandaragama Samaranayake Road.

The deceased was a 24-year-old unmarried youth residing in Agalawatta who worked in an organization providing services on contract basis to the National Water Supply Board. Police said that the deceased youth and another person working in the company were staying in the shelter of a two-storey house that had been provided for them to stay and consumed alcoholic beverages there in the evening.

Police said that the deceased person had gone upstairs in response to a phone call received around 6 pm, while the other person had fallen asleep downstairs.

When the other person downstairs awoke, he went to upstairs and saw his colleague lying face-up in the upstairs living room with phlegm dripping out of his mouth and urine on the floor. He called the neighbour’s for help. They called 1990 Suva Seriya Ambulance Service, who came and checked the body and confirmed that the man was dead.

Officers of the Panadura Division Crime Investigation Laboratory came and conducted investigations.

A magisterial inquiry is to be held.
