Youth abducted for damning evidence on phone
The Avissawella Police on Monday (31) evening arrested three persons including a woman and an Army soldier, who had recently kidnapped a young man who was expecting to be married, on the pretext of taking him to show the car to be used on his wedding day, and detained him for six hours and assaulted him, asking for information about an extramarital affair.
The Police said that the woman is the 50-year-old mother of the soldier.
According to the Police, the Army soldier and the abducted youth are also relatives. A high-ranking Police officer said that the suspects stated that the Army soldier’s sister was having an affair and the abducted youth had supported it. During questioning by the Police, the suspects had said that the mobile phone of the abducted young man had a lot of evidence related to the affair and that the abduction took place in order to obtain that evidence.
The Police said that the wedding of the abducted young man is scheduled to be held in the near future and that the Army soldier had brought him and carried out this abduction by saying that he would be given a car for his wedding journey which needed to be inspected.
The abduction had taken place on July 24. The young man is a resident of Talduwa. The soldier arrested for kidnapping the 25-year-old is 26 years of age. The Police said that he is also a resident of Talduwa and is working in Mullaitivu.
The Police said further that these suspects are to be produced before the Avissawella Magistrate’s Court.
