Youth arrested with Rs.400 m worth heroin

A youth who was in possession of 40 Kg of heroin, valued at around Rs.400 million was arrested yesterday in Rerukana, Bandaragama, Police Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said.

The Crimes Prevention Unit of the Kalutara Division had conducted a special raid at Rerukana, in the Bandaragama Police area yesterday morning and had detected the 40 Kg of heroin along with the suspect.

The suspect who has been identified as a 23-year-old was taken into Police custody along with the three-wheeler he had used to transport the heroin. The suspect is a resident of Gelanigama in Bandaragama. Preliminary investigations have uncovered that this narcotics racket was operated by an individual residing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The Police Spokesman said that the seized heroin consignment is valued at around Rs.400 million.

The Police stated that the Military Police have been informed to apprehend one of the relatives of the suspect in connection with the incident.

The arrestee has been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for further investigations.
