Youth sets fire to sister’s house

The Nittambuwa Police on Sunday (14) took into custody a 23-year-old youth, who subsequent to an argument with this elder sister, set fire to her house.

The house that was set on fire was located at Ruggahawila, Panwila, in the Nittambuwa Police Division.

The police said that the suspect lived in a house close to his elder sister’s. On the night of May 13, he had gone to his sister’s house and had an argument with her.

According to the police, her husband had not been at home at the time. Unable to tolerate her younger brother’s harassment, the sister had locked her house, taken her child and gone to her mother’s house.

The police said the brother had set fire to her house while she was at her mother’s place. They also said that he had broken the lock on a door, entered the house and set it on fire.

The police stated that the fire had destroyed domestic appliances in the house as well as the child’s school bag and clothing.

The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Attanagalle Magistrate.
