Zoom technology for Adivasi leader to attend National Environment Council meetings

The Zoom application facilitates to Adivasi Leader Uruwarige Wanniyaleththo to attend meetings of the
National Environment Council.

Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera yesterday (30) instructed the Central Environmental Authority not to bring Adivasi Leader Wanaspathy Uruwarige Wanniyaleththo from Dambane to Colombo for monthly meetings and urgent meetings of the Environment Council held at the CEA office.

Adivasi Nayaka Wanaspathy Uruwarige Wanniyaleththan was appointed as a member of the Environment
Council for the first time. Although 13 sessions of the Environment Council have been held in the past, not a
single step has been taken to appoint Adiwasi leader who loves the environment and has a high knowledge of the
environment.

Therefore, the Minister instructed the Director General of the Central Environmental Authority, Hemantha Jayasinghe to facilitate the participation in the discussions and urgent meetings of the Environment Council through the ZOOM application and to provide all necessary facilities through the Badulla District Office of the Central Environmental Authority.

The Minister also said that necessary steps should be taken to enable the Wanniyaleththo from the Dambane adivasi village to participate in the event.

The Minister gave these instructions to the Central Environmental Authority while participating in the progress
review meeting of the Surakimu Ganga program yesterday (30).

The Minister also commented on the meaningful speech made by the Wanniyaleththo at the 14th session of the
Environment Council, adding that the best speech he had ever heard was delivered by him on how to work for
environmental protection and conservations.
