Former retired Inspector General of Police (IGP) Victor Perera has passed away at the age of 75.
The highly respected law enforcement official passed away yesterday (16) afternoon, while under treatment at the Colombo National Hospital, as confirmed by sources close to his family.
Victor Perera, who held the position of the 30th Inspector General of Police, assumed this high ranking role upon being promoted on October 12, 2006. His dedicated service to Sri Lanka spanned his tenure as IGP until his retirement on June 3, 2008.
Victor Perera’s contributions to the country extended beyond the police force as he served as the first Governor of the Northern Province, marking a unique distinction as the first former Police Chief (IGP) to be appointed to the role of a Provincial Governor.
His diverse roles in law enforcement and governance made him a respected figure in the public service.
