Skipper Scott Edwards made fighting knock of unbeaten 78 as Netherlands recorded an upset win over more fancied South Africa in their World Cup cricket fixture played at Dharmasala yesterday.
It was superb team effort by Dutch team who made 38 runs win over South Africa who scored 207 all out with one ball to spare chasing a target of 246. David Miller (43) and Keshav Maharaj (40) were the only successful South Africa batters while Logan ven Beek was the most successful bowler taking 3 for 60 in his nine overs spell. This was the biggest upset in the World Cup so far. Dutch team who came from qualifying round as similar as Sri Lanka recorded their first win to create this win and they will meet Sri Lanka on October 21 in Lucknow. Skipper Scott Edwards was named Man of the Match yesterday.
The match reduced to 43 overs per side, with the Dutch team invited to bat first, were struggling at 82 for 5 wickets in 20.2 overs but skipper Scott Edwards who came in at number seven took full responsibility to build up the innings to reach 245 for 8 wickets in 43 overs.
Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada shared two wickets each for South Africa. Today (18) unbeaten New Zealand will meet Afghanistan in Chennai. The Afghan team which created an upset win over England in their last game, looking to pose a big challenge against New Zealanders today.
