Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP)has taken steps to temporarily suspend the membership of MP Dayasiri Jayasekara. Sri Lanka Freedom Party General Secretary, MP Duminda Dissanayake said that SLFP President Nimal Siripala de Silva has taken this decision based on several factors, including the creation of a political alliance called the Humane People’s Alliance together with three registered political parties and eighteen political parties and organisations.
The General Secretary stated this while attending the press conference held at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party headquarters yesterday (3).
Dissanayake stated that additional disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party constitution if Jayasekara fails to reply the letter sent by the party seeking explanation within seven days.
Jayasekara said that failure to provide an explanation within the allotted seven days would be deemed an admission of guilt and would result in additional disciplinary action.
The General Secretary stated that the letter sent to Jayasekara stated that it has been verified that Dayasiri Jayasekara has been chosen to lead a political party.
“Dayasiri Jayasekara, who is a member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, has no right to directly or indirectly support the formation of such a new political alliance or to obtain leadership, office or membership in such an alliance and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party has not given him any approval or permission to do so is unconstitutional, illegal and a serious indiscipline” .
