Twenty two year old Sachini Dayaratne, an old girl of St.Anthonys’ Girls School, Katugastota is an outstanding cricketer who became the captain of the School Cricket team in the year 2019
Sachini started her Cricket career in 2012 under the coaching of Susantha Basnayake, a level II Cricket Coach and at the start she was in the Junior cricket team of the School. In the year 2016 at the All Island Division II Cricket tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association she claimed Five wickets For Twenty runs against Pindeniya Central School and she was adjudged the ‘Best Woman Cricketer’ in 2016 and 2017 at the Cricket tournament organized by the Dept. of Education,Kandy.
She scored One Hundred runs in Four matches, the highest being Forty runs against Galewela Central School in 2016 and again she scored 120 runs, in four matches,the highest being Thirty three runs against Mahamaya Girls School, Kandy in 2017 In addition she claimed Five wickets for thirty runs against the same school at the Cricket tournament held in the same year.
In the year 2018 Sachini was adjudged the ‘Best player’ in the ‘Big Match’ against Nugawela Central School when she scored Forty seven runs and she was selected to the Development Squad of Sri Lanka Cricket in 2018. She scored her first Century against Nuwara Eliya District when she scored one Hundred and two and she went up on the ladder of success when she had a fine double in a Division two Tournament match when she scored Forty seven runs and bagged four wickets against Pelawatte Navodya Vidyalaya in 2019. She had an all-round performance against Maliyadewa Girls School,Kurunegala and scored Forty Seven runs claiming Four wickets for Thirty five runs as a right hand batswoman and a right arm off spinner.
Sachini led her Cricket team to become third in the Girls Schools Cricket Tournament and she was selected to play in the Division One Girls Cricket tournament from the year 2019
She is a bright student and entered the Sri Jayawardenapura University in the Commerce stream and her intention is to become a Chartered Accountant while improving her Cricket ability to be selected to the National team and she is thankful to her Coach, Susantha Basnayake and the Teacher-in-charge Wasanthi Jinadasa for the encouragement given to her.
